Guyana come to South Africa this September hoping to go one better than their Caribbean counterparts, Trinidad and Tobago, runners-up of the inaugural edition of CLT20 in India. Guyana, officially the Co-operative Republic of Guyana and previously known as British Guiana, is a state on the northern coast of South America that is culturally part of the Anglophone Caribbean. It has produced cricketing greats like Clive Lloyd, Basil Butcher, Colin Croft, Roy Fredericks, Lance Gibbs, Roger Harper, Carl Hooper and Alvin Kallicharran. Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan is the only big name in the current side but the presence of some talented youngsters like Devendra Bishoo and Jonathan Foo gives Guyana an opportunity to surprise their rivals with the unexpected. Guyana's passage to CLT20 wasn't the easiest of affairs. Playing in the semi-final of the Caribbean T20 2010, they beat Trinidad and Tobago, the defending champions, in a closely contested match and then snatched victory after very nearly courting
defeat against Barbados in the final.
The Guyana cricket team is the representative first class cricket team of Guyana.
It does not take part in any international competitions, but rather in inter-regional competitions in the Caribbean, such as the Carib Beer Cup and the KFC Cup, and the best players may be selected for the West Indies team which plays international cricket.
Guyana has won the domestic first class title five times since its inception in 1965-66, which is the third highest amount of wins, behind Barbados and Jamaica. In the 2005-06 Carib Beer Cup, Guyana finished third after going unbeaten through the season, though they only won one of the five games.
Roger Harper, cricketer turned coach
In one-day cricket, Guyana has reached the final of the domestic competition four of the last five times, and are the current holders of the KFC Cup. They have won the KFC Cup a total of nine times - including two shared titles - which is the most by any competing team, Trinidad and Tobago coming closest with seven (including one shared).
The cricket team has been known under two other names - they were first known as Demerara when they played in the first first-class cricket game of the West Indies, against Barbados in 1865, and they retained that name until 1899, when it was finally changed to British Guiana (they had also played first-class cricket in 1895 as British Guiana). The name of British Guiana stuck until 1965-66, when the nation and thus the team changed to its current name. From 1971 until the mid 1980s two regional sides competed in an annual first class match
for the Guystac Trophy.
The list of prominent cricketers who have played for Guyana includes Basil Butcher, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Colin Croft, Roy Fredericks, Lance Gibbs, Roger Harper, Carl Hooper, Alvin Kallicharran, Rohan Kanhai, Clive Lloyd and Ramnaresh Sarwan.

The Vijay Mallya-owned Royal Challengers Bangalore make their second Airtel Champions League Twenty20 appearance by virtue of finishing third in the third season of the Indian Premier League. The Anil Kumble-led outfit figured in the inaugural CLT20 too thanks to their runners-up position in IPL 2009. From being chided as a 'Test team' in coloured clothing in the inaugural season of the IPL, it has been some transformation for the Bangalore-based franchise who have made it to two consecutive CLT20 competitions. Former South African coach Ray Jennings coaches a side with a strong South African flavour - a fact that will no doubt assist RCB in CLT20's African sojourn. With the rock solid Anil Kumble as captain and several other proven Twenty20 performers in their squad, the Royal Challengers Bangalore surely start as one of the favourites to clinch the title this season.
Royal Challengers Bangalore is a franchise, cricket team based in the city of Bangalore. The team is owned by the business magnate Vijay Mallya, through his flagship firm UB Group.Anil Kumble is the captain, Rahul Dravid is the team's Icon Player, while Ray Jennings, is the coach.Indian Premier League is a cricket tournament being organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and backed by the International Cricket Council (ICC).[5] For the inaugural tournament held in Apr-Jun 2008, the BCCI had finalised a list of 8 teams who will be participating in the tournament. The teams representing 8 different cities of India, including Bangalore, were put up on auction in Mumbai on 20 February 2008 and the Bangalore team was won by Vijay Mallya, who paid US$111.6 million for it. This was the second highest bid for a team in the IPL, next only to Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries' bid of $111.9 million for the Mumbai team. Bollywood actresses Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone, and Sandalwood film stars Ramya and Puneeth Rajkumar are the brand ambassadors of the team.
Challengers had a mixed round of success in the third edition of the IPL. The team slumped to a defeat in their first match against the Knight Riders but came back strongly to win the next four games which started off with the highest successful run chase in IPL 2010 and the second highest successful run chase in IPL history against Kings XI Punjab at Bangalore. This win was followed by comprehensive wins against the Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings. Kallis and Uthappa were in tremendous form with the bat while Kumble was miserly with the ball, Steyn fast and accurate and Vinay Kumar wily picking wickets at the right time. However the team lost the next two games and after a roller coaster ride managed to
sneak into the semis for the second consecutive season by virtue of their healthy net run rate beating Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders both of whom had equal number of wins and losses as the Bangalore outfit. In the semifinal the Challengers put on a shoddy display after beginning well to concede 77 runs during the last 5 overs of the Mumbai innings and did not bat well to loose the match by 35 runs. The team had the final laugh after they beat the defending champions Deccan Chargers against whom they lost the previous year's final, by beating them all end's up by 9 wickets to finish third for the season and thereby book a slot in the 2010 Champions League Twenty20.

The South Australian Redbacks make it to the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 by virtue of making it to the final of Australia's KFC Big Bash T20 for the first time. A team which is undergoing a metamorphosis of kinds, the South Australian Redbacks were the most consistent side in the KFC Big Bash last season, registering four wins in five matches, before ending up second best in the title clash against the Victorian Bushrangers. The Redbacks might not have too many superstars in their midst, but they certainly have someone who can lay claim to being the fastest bowler in the world today. Shaun Tait has set cricket fields ablaze registering
spectacular bowling speeds. One could expect to see new records being set during the Champions League Twenty20 too. Tait apart, the Redbacks also have consistent performers like skipper Graham Manou and the returning Callum Ferguson. The Redbacks cruised into the final on the back of splendid performances from their overseas signing - Kieron Pollard - among others. CLT20 2010 presents another great opportunity for the home-grown players to rise to the occasion.
The Southern Redbacks, are also known as the West End Redbacks with their sponsorship agreement with local brewers West End, are an Australian first class cricket team based in Adelaide, South Australia. It competes in the first class competition the Sheffield Shield, the limited overs Ford Ranger Cup and the Twenty20 tournament known as the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash. The team's home ground and main training venue is the Adelaide Oval. Their One-Day match uniform's dominant colour is red similar to Zimbabwe. The current One Day match uniform features a red body with black sleeves and manufacturer adidas' trademark three-stripe design on the sides. Currently the Redbacks have not won any competition since the 1995–96 season.
The earliest known First-class match played by South Australia took place against Tasmania on the Adelaide Oval in November 1877.[1] In 1892–93 they joined New South Wales and Victoria
and played the inaugural Sheffield Shield season. South Australia won the Shield in just their second attempt. They have won the competition 13 times in total while they have twice won the One Day tournament now known as the Ford Ranger Cup.
Over the years many successful international cricketers have played for South Australia. Clarrie Grimmett played with them during the 1920s and 30s, taking a total of 668 wickets which remains a state record. In 1934 Donald Bradman joined the club after originally playing with New South Wales, and started with scores of 117, 233 and 357 in his first three innings. Others include the Chappell brothers, David Hookes and Terry Jenner.
South Australia have also imported cricketers to play for them, the most famous being Gary Sobers who appeared in three seasons during the early 1960s and Barry Richards. Richards played just one season with South Australia but managed to set a state record for most runs in a season, making 1538 runs in 1970–71.

The Highveld Lions, with players from Gauteng and North West provinces in South Africa, qualify for the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 2010 by virtue of being runners-up in the Pro20 competition in South Africa. Among the players to look out for in the Lions' squad are captain Alviro Petersen, the ever-dependable Neil McKenzie. The Lions' Vaughn van Jaarsveld finished as the team's top run-getter (249 runs in 8 matches) - second in the list of the top run-getters in the Pro20 2009/10, while Robert Frylinck finished as the tournament's leading wicket-taker. The Lions will feature in the tournament's very first game, against the Mumbai Indians, which will be played at their home ground Wanderers. They certainly will be hoping to feature in the last game of the tournament too - the title clash - which will be played at the same ground.
The Highveld Lions is the name used by the combined Gauteng and North West first class cricket teams in South Africa. The home venues are the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg and Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.
The combined team plays in the SuperSport Series first class cricket competition as well as in the MTN Domestic Championship and Standard Bank Twenty20 limited over competitions.
The King David Schools’ Foundation (KDSF) is an organisation that raises funds
to assist deserving learners in the King David schools and to finance an Outreach Programme that supports disadvantaged schools, mainly in Alexandra. On Sunday morning, 1st November an event was organised at the Lion Park, under the auspices of the King David Schools’ Foundation, to name two of the precious white lion cubs. The special guests were the Bizhub Highveld Lions cricket team, who were accorded the honour of naming the magnificent and rare white cubs, as a thank you to the team for attending the SA Sporting Legends Cocktail Party fundraiser organised earlier in the year by the KDSF.
After a short introduction, Neil McKenzie, the captain of the Bizhub Highveld Lions, announced that the male cub would be named “Stevie”, in honour of Steven Cooke’s record-breaking innings of 390 runs in a recent first-class match, and that the female cub would be called “Passion”, since that word summed up the determination and enthusiasm of his cricket team.
All then enjoyed a delicious lunch, provided by Stan and Pete Caterers, and after this all participants, including the fledgling cricket team from Ithute Primary School (one of the KDSF’s Outreach schools), were treated to a game drive through the park.
The outing proved a great success with even the weather proving a co-operative ally to the organisers.

Mumbai Indians,is a franchise cricket team representing Mumbai in the Indian Premier League. The team is one of the eight founding members of the IPL in 2008. Mumbai Indians are currently led by Sachin Tendulkar, who is also the Icon Player for the team and is coached by Robin Singh. The team is owned by India's biggest conglomerate, Reliance Industries, through its 100% subsidiary IndiaWin Sports.
Led by Sachin Tendulkar, the Mumbai Indians make it to the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 2010 by virtue of finishing runners-up in the Indian Premier League 2010. The most consistent team in the IPL 2010 in the league stages, the Mumbai Indians have a great mix of experience and youth. While Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan bring in all their years of experience of playing at the international level, the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Rajagopal Sathish, Ambati Rayudu and Saurabh Tiwary bring in the much-needed zeal and hunger for achievement on the big stage. On the bowling front, Lasith Malinga's toe-crushing yorkers are simply too hot for most batsmen to handle and he will be a major cog in the Mumbai Indians' plans, while Harbhajan and Zaheer will be hoping to draw on their experience of playing in South Africa to the advantage of their team.
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) purchased the rights for the Mumbai franchise of Indian Premier league for a total of Rs. 441 Cr ($ 112.9 m) during the auction on 24 January 2008. In what has been described by some as "the ultimate heights of laziness in name selection" and "like they chose the name by throwing darts on a wall" the franchise was eventually named the Mumbai Indians. While this is arguably a "tour de force" in ineptitude, the name does acknowledge that people from Mumbai are largely Indian, which in the club's defence, is somewhat true. The RIL bid has made the Mumbai Indians the most expensive franchise in IPL, and hence won the right to hold the semi-finals and the final in Mumbai. The team was unveiled on the 17th of April, 2008 in Mumbai.
During the IPL's first auction for the year 2010, Mumbai Indians bought Westindian All rounder Kieron Pollard for USD 750,000, after a silent tie-breaker with Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Kolkata Knight Riders. The team had a strong start after defending a total of 212 against the Rajasthan Royals in their first match and went on to beat Delhi Daredevils defending another 218.The team was supported by match-winning knocks from Tiwary,Rayudu and Tendulkar. However the Mumbai Indians crumbled to the Royal Challengers Bangalore for their first loss in 3 games. In their next game, Mumbai Indians restricted the Kolkata Knight Riders to a meagre 155.The Mumbai Indians chased this total with ease, as Sachin Tendulkar scored a blazing knock of 71 from 48 balls. It also won in the same fashion against Chennai Super Kings by Sachin Tendulkar, again playing a match-winning knock of 72 from 52 balls. They continued their winning streak by winning against the previous year's champions, Deccan Chargers, due to an amazing knock of 49 from just 18 balls and a spell of 3-31, by Harbhajan Singh. They also beat Kings XI Punjab by 4 wickets, courtesy of Shikhar Dhawan, Saurabh Tiwary & Rajagopal Sathish. They also defeated the Deccan Chargers by 63 runs and won their 7th game out of the 9 games played . On 11/04/2010, Mumbai Indians beat Rajasthan Royals to become the first team in IPL 2010 to qualify for semi-finals. In their 12th game they defeated Delhi Daredevils and remained the table toppers with 18 points and a run rate of +1.12. In the 13th game Mumbai Indians Defeated Royal Challengers in their Home Ground in a match that was delayed due to a small intensity blast in the stadium premises. In the final league game Mumbai Indians rested their key players. Dwayne Bravo lead the game in absence of Sachin Tendulkar and they lost the game to Kolkata Knight riders by nine wickets. With 20 points they were at the top of the points table and played their first IPL semi-final with Royal Challengers Bangalore. They crushed their opponents in the semi finals despite losing Sachin Tendulkar for a single digit score, which happens to be his first single digit score this year in all forms of the game. They lost their first IPL final to Chennai Super Kings. They also qualified for Champions League Twenty20 2010 along with Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Sachin Tendulkar had an excellent IPL 2010, amassing 618 runs with a strike rate of 132.61. He won the orange cap for the tournament, which is awarded to the highest run scorer. He played an important role in bringing out young talent to the forefront in players like Saurabh Tiwary, Ambati Rayudu and Aditya Tare. Sachin Tendulkar also won the best batsman and the best captain awards in the IPL Awards 2010.
